Get Shakira's hair from the Latin Grammy Awards

Hair Look:

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte was hard at work behind the scenes of the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards, creating not one, but three different hairstyles for award-winner and performer Shakira. First Andy created a loose, sexy up-do for her walk down the red carpet, next, he let the singer’s hair down for some glamorous waves for her award wins and then a more rock and roll style as she took center stage with a performance.

Look #1.

1. Wash hair with Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner to maximize volume and shine.

2. Prep wet hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier Style Primer, then blow-dry the hair with a large round brush.

3. Curves: The 34-year-old’s gown featured a bedazzled bodice, which also tended to accentuate her cleavage. Spray hair with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to create matte texture to create the loose – slightly undone look.

4. Pull back the rest of the hair in a loose, natural piece-y chignon and pin it with a mixture of bobby pins and long T pins.

5. Pull down a few loose pieces and use a curling iron to give them a slight curl.

6. Spray the finished look with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix 45 Second Crafting Spray to set.

Look #2.

1. Blow out hair with Wella Professionals Flowing Form Smoothing Balm to create lots of body and lift, and then set hair in Velcro rollers.

2. Take a 1 ¼ inch curling iron and curled and pin hair in horizontal sections.

3. Let hair set for about 20 minutes and then brush hair off to one side with a boar bristle brush.

4. Lift bang area with a rattail comb and spray with Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray.

5. Spritz the hair with Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray for an all over radiant glow.

Look #3.

1. Use Wella Professionals Enrich Care regimen to condition hair for a silky smooth result without weighing it down.

2. Apply Wella Professionals Extra Volume Styling Mousse directly to a vent brush and comb from the root to the end for thorough application.

3. Blow dry the hair completely smooth with a ceramic brush.

4. Spray hair evenly with light application of Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray and separate hair into small sections and use a medium to large barrel curling iron to set loose waves.

5. Spray hair with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to create matte texture to create the loose – slightly undone look.

6. Use Wella Shimmer Delight Shine Spray to add extra natural shine to the hair.

7. Aerate hair with fingers then set with Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray to control fly-aways, tucking the hair behind one ear and giving it an all-over polished look.

Wella Professionals Backstage At Peter Som

PETER SOM / FALL 2011

Hair by Wella Professionals

Collection:

Fall 2011 is all about real clothes for real women – it’s about luxurious ease but with a sense of fun. It’s about everyday luxury. The makeup and hair reflect a youthful style that kept the models from looking too mature and “done,” but it’s still feminine with a twist.

Hair Look:

The hair look is inspired by a late-’50s, early-’60s quirky housewife, but with an added rawness to it. It’s a deconstructed half-up bouffant ‘that looks a just a little bit off. The intentionally disheveled hairstyle modernizes the classic updo with a surprising twist to make hair edgier, sexier and quite simply, “cool-looking.” The updo is a bit unexpected and looks like it’s coming undone as it’s very windswept, textured and autumnal. It has that ’90s take on the ’50s — it’s slightly minimal, but now it’s a bit more raw.

Haircolor:

Wella Professionals Color Ambassador, Aura of NYC’s Serge Normant Salon, collaborated with Peter Som to choose a haircolor palette ranging from platinum blondes to brunettes. Aura and a team of elite Wella Professionals Top Artists from across North America custom-colored ombré extensions for each model for added length and fullness. Each extension started two shades lighter than the model’s natural haircolor and the team formulated color to match the roots and create a shadow for an ombré effect. It gives the hairstyle more texture and depth because the minute you have a root it makes hair look thicker and a bit denser.

Step-by-Step Styling

1. Start with natural, textured hair spraying Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz on the roots.

2. Blow-dry hair upside down using fingers to create volume and texture.

3. Tease the top crown area by back-combing to add texture.

4. Make a side or central part and pull hair back behind the ears; tie at one side into a tight ponytail, leaving out teased section and bottom section of hair. This creates a tight, severe hair line.

5. Brush the top surface of the hair and twist into an asymmetrical French twist; secure with one hair pin.

6. To finish blast hair gently with dryer to loosen hairstyle, and spritz lightly with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix 45 Second Crafting Spray to hold the look.

Wella Professionals Creating the Hair Look for DKNY Fall ‘11 + Get the look

February 15, 2011 by: admin

Backstage at New York Fashion Week with Eugene Souleiman,
Global Creative Director, Wella Professionals

The Look: Perfect Imperfection

The hair look for the Fall ’11 DKNY show in New York was inspired by the late ‘60s/ early ‘70s ‘mod’ look, where stiff structured looks gave way to a new modern aesthetic. The hair perfectly partnered the new linear aesthetic of the DKNY catwalk collection, which featured a palette of black and white with splashes of red, orange and navy, and channeled a ‘mod’ ‘60s mood.

“I wanted to create a look that started off with the perfect blow dry but then evolved to a more thoughtful, contemporary finish. I was inspired by the classic ‘Rock Star’s Girlfriend’ look of the late ‘60s, a look that is still much coveted today, as it is the perfect combination of sexiness and class. For me, it’s all about creating the perfect look and then bringing in imperfection, in this look we’ve done that by adding texture for a raw, sexy, ‘lived in’ look” says Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director Wella Professionals, Care & Styling.

Get the Look:

Start by creating the perfect blow dry; use Wella Professionals Perfect Setting Blow-dry Lotion. Blow-dry the hair using a round brush to give a smooth finish. Create a side parting and section off the hair around the crown of the head. Divide the crown section into two and wind each section round a large Velcro roller and clip in place; this will give direction and create a little volume. Leave the Velcro rollers in for at least 15 minutes. To finish the style, remove the rollers and spray Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray into the hair, blast the hair with a blow dryer to dry the spray, and then massage the crown of the head with your fingers to create texture and fly aways.

White Sands Velcro Strips Review

July 9, 2010 by: admin

I don’t know about you, but I’m obsessed with Giselle Bundchen’s hair. She has those perfect beachy waves that I love. So when I was offered the chance to review White Sands Velcro Strips, which promise to give those waves quickly and easily, I of course jumped at the chance.

What they say:

White Sands Velcro Strips are ideal for creating waves, volume, and curls for wet or dry hairstyling. Creating results with volume has never been easier since these strips do not get stuck or pull hair when removed. Use our Velcro Strips with any of the Liquid Texture Sprays and get soft, textured curls with volume and shine. White Sands Velcro Strips give you countless options for texture, curls, and volume.

Our thoughts:

These strips are so much easier to use to create beachy waves than anything else I’ve tried. I can’t count the numerous times I’ve burnt myself trying to use straightening/curling irons to achieve the same look these give without any heat at all. Just take about a 4-inch section about 2 inches thick and spray both sides with Liquid Texture. Lay the section of hair on top of the Velcro Strip (Velcro side facing up) then apply another Velcro Strip (Velcro side up) with the section of hair sandwiched between the two Velcro Strips. Align the holes of the strips so you can weave the stick and achieve the desired wave pattern. Do not apply Velcro on Velcro as this will cause the hair to frizz. When you remove the strips you will be left with loose, gorgeous waves.

Pros:

*Creates volume, curls and loose waves
*Adjustable curl sizes
*Easy release
*Travel friendly
*No heat so not damaging to hair

Cons:

*Price (Size: Medium – $36.00 for 6 strips/3 sticks Size: Large – $40.00 for 6 strips/3 sticks)

Overall, I’d say these are great for those who travel a lot and for girls like myself who are heat styling tool challenged. Two thumbs up!

Kristen Bell’s Fave Beauty Products

October 20, 2009 by: admin

What’s behind Kristen Bell’s killer bod, glowing skin, and shiny hair? Find out below.

Kristen is a vegetarian and loves a good salad. One of her favorite salads is called “Garbage Disposal Salad”:

“Oh my gosh, it’s the best! I usually start with spinach, then put in almonds, pine nuts, dried cranberries, blueberries, apples, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots and celery. Believe it or not; it tastes good together. Put some feta or Parmesan on top and you don’t even need dressing.”

Another thing she loves is Kale Chips.

“A great way to get everything the superfood kale has to offer. Break off the stems and break the leaves into potato chip size pieces. Then drizzle them in olive oil, put sea salt on them, and bake em for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Tasty.”

Wen Cleansing Conditioner

“It feels like a conditioner, but it actually cleanses your hair. And it doesn’t make you an oily mess.”

Kiehl’s Cucumber Toner

“It cleans your skin, but it doesn’t strip your skin.”

The Solution Moisturizer

“It’s completely natural-so much so that it goes bad after a couple of months. It’s that healthy.”
