New Drugstore Beauty Products

January 4, 2012 by: admin

I just got back from a place I don’t visit often, WalMart.

I don’t know why I just prefer Target, but WalMart was on the way home and I was in major need of a space heater.

I live in the Sunshine state, but it’s hit freezing temperatures two nights in a row now and this girl is freezing, brrrrr.

After quickly finding the space heaters it was time to do something fun so I made a stop by the Makeup Aisle because I mean how could I not?

I didn’t end up buying anything, but I did take some pictures of several newer items to share with you.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Review

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Review

Saturday I had to run into CVS to pick up something or another and to my surprise I saw a huge display for the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm I mentioned a few days ago.

As you can probably guess I picked one up in the shade Pink Punch.

So after a few days of use I’m ready to give a review.

Here are my thoughts….

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Review

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Review

The good:
* Smells great! A mixture or Fruitty Pebbles and Skittles, yummy.
* Love the color
* Makes your lips feel super hydrated (for awhile)

The bad:
* My lips feel very moisturized for a few minutes and then they start to feel very dry and I have to use more balm
* This leaves behind a filmy residue on the inside of your lips, you know where it piles up and you have to dig it out, yuck!
* Expensive when you compare it to products that work much better for less (EOS, Burts Bees, Etc)

So would I repurchase?

I’d have to say probably not. I paid $4.99 for this and feel like I got ripped off. If you’re interested in trying this balm I’d say wait for a sale. I’ll stick to my EOS and Burt’s Bees balms which are much more hydrating and cheaper!

Have you gotten a chance to try this product yet?

I’d love to hear from you!

Happy 40th Birthday to Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Any Great Lash Mascara fans out there?

It was the first mascara I ever used and though I have moved on to better things (sorry Great Lash) it will always hold a special place in my heart.

The product turns 40 this year and to commemorate the milestone, Tracy Reese, Vivienne Tam and Max Azria have put their stylish stamp on the iconic packaging. Reese’s is a eyelash pattern, Tam used the Chinese symbol for “lash.”

Fun fact: The original pink and green packaging was originally created in 1971 by then up-and-coming designer Lilly Pulitzer.

Another fun fact: Great Lash is the #1 best selling mascara in America with over 20 million tubes sold each year. So to break that down even further that means a tube of Great Lash is sold every 1.7 seconds in the U.S.

Who knew?

Interested in getting one of the limited-edition designer tubes of great lash?

They will be available in Target stores Aug. 21 and will retail for $6.99 each.

Happy Birthday Great Lash.

You’ve come a long way darling….

Neat Trick using a Maybelline Eye Pencil

August 18, 2010 by: admin

Here’s a neat trick I learned from the Scott Barnes book. I’ve been doing it daily since reading about it and it works amazingly well!

Take a Maybelline eye pencil (his favorite black pencil and now mine also) and a cigarette lighter and simply wave the tip of your pencil through the flame a couple of times to soften it. Remember to blow on it and test it one your hand before putting it to your eye. Please don’t burn yourself doing this. The consistency should be firm, so that it glides on. Once it cools down almost to the point of getting hard again, use it like a crayon on your lids or waterline and you’ll have a charcoal pencil effect that will last all day. At least on me it does.

Have you ever tried this trick before? What were your thoughts?

Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation Review

July 21, 2010 by: admin

I’ve been hearing a lot about this foundation recently so I decided to pick it up. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now so I feel like I can give an honest review.

What they say:

Revolutionary whipped formula provides an air-soft, perfect matte finish coverage, with a weightless feel. Color pigments offer superior coverage. Blends effortlessly for a soft, natural-looking, even-toned result.

My thoughts:

The Good:

  • Applies easily and leaves a dewy finish
  • Blends easily
  • Price is only $7.99

The Bad:

  • Doesn’t apply Matte
  • Gone by the end of the day
  • Leaves us oily skinned girls needing to blot several times throughout the day
  • It’s easy to apply too much and it can look cakey
  • The color choices are weird. I couldn’t find an exact match for my NW20 skin.

Overall, I think this foundation would be good for someone who has very dry skin and is looking for a drugstore foundation.  For the oily skinned girls like myself though, I’d say pass on this product unless you don’t mind blotting two or three times throughout the day.

Maybelline The Falsies Volum Express Mascara Review

June 24, 2010 by: admin

What they say:

Create a False Lash Look with thicker and longer looking lashes and no gaps from any angle. Our Exclusive Full Coverage Brush finds every lash for 3 x more visible lashes, while our Pro_Keratin filter formula fills in every gap. False lash fab-guaranteed.

New specialized Spoon brush for easy application and generous product deposit. New Pro-Keratin & Fibre enriched formula fills gaps for corner to corner coverage. Conquers clumps.

Our thoughts:

The Pros….
What I like about it:

* It gives you great length
* Affordable at only $7.99
* Pretty purple packaging
* Great dark color/pigmentation

The Cons….
What I don’t like about it:

* Dries quickly
* The scoop brush takes a little getting used to
* Clumps quickly and easily
* Doesn’t add much volume at all

Overall, I think this product is a pass. While this mascara does give you some decent length, it fails at giving you any volume at all. Another problem with this mascara, is that it dries so quickly you’ll end up with clumpy, spider lashes if your not careful.

I didn’t see the “falsies” look with this at all.

Have you tried this product before? What were your thoughts?

Maybelline The Falsies Volum Express Mascara Review can be purchased at Target or Drugstores.

Retail: Around $7.99.

Demi Moore’s Top Makeup and Beauty Must Haves

January 9, 2010 by: admin

I don’t know about you, but I think Demi Moore looks amazing these days. At 47 Demi looks better than ever.

The actress recently spoke to Instyle Magazine about her must have beauty products and they were….

  • La Mer The Lip Balm: “I like to keep a great balm in every handbag.”
  • Redken Extreme Deep Fuel: “Moisture is key for keeping hair glossy.”
  • Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara: “So simple. You can’t go wrong with it.”
  • Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Sensual Skin Enhancer: “When you work this foundation in with your fingers, it gives an incredibly natural finish.”
  • Chris McMillan Rejuvenating Shampoo: “I change up my shampoo so that my hair doesn’t get used to it. This is what I’m using now.”

I’d love to know if she really uses Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. La Mer I can see, but Great Lash? Hmmmm….
