Probiotics: Are they a cure for acne?

February 1, 2010 by: admin

I’m 31 and you would think that I would be well past the acne stage by now, but no acne is something I’m dealing with more now than ever before….pouts.

I was reading Shape Magazine (Feb 2010 Issue) and came across some good news for us acne sufferers.

Creams and cleansers that contain probiotics can help you clear up acne. They change the PH of your skin “making it inhospitable for blemish – causing bacteria.” says Tami Meraglia, M.D, a Seattle based physician.

She also recommends taking a probiotic supplement saying:

“And popping a probiotic supplement can enhance the complexion clearing effect.”

Some of the products that were recommended in the article are Clinique Medical Probiotic Cleanser ($28.00) , Epicuren Discovery Acidophilus Probiotic Facial Cream ($60.00) and Sonya Dakar Acidophilus Flora Dietary Supplement ($44.00).

I’m very interested in trying a probiotic cleanser, but they all seem fairly expensive. Do you know of a good Probiotic cleanser? Has anyone tried the Clinique product yet? Any one ever find that taking a probiotic has helped clear up their acne? Please share.

Guest Post: 5 Clinique Makeup Must Haves

January 22, 2010 by: admin

Here’s another Guest Post from our Clinique Beauty Consultant, Cindy. Enjoy!

1. Lip Smoothies

Lip smoothies are amazing because it gives you the coverage of a lipstick in a gloss form. If you are anything like me, lipsticks these days do not have enough moisture in them. So, you have to wear a lip gloss on top of your lipstick to give you the texture and look that you are going for. However, there are times when I want the convenience of just using one product. This product is the answer to that problem. Plus, they have tons of antioxidants and vitamins. They also feel very smooth on the lips, never sticky. Every single one of these colors are beautiful, so be sure to check it out.

2. Butter Shine Lipstick (Delovely)

I love the texture of the Butter Shine lipsticks. Now, this lipstick does provide plenty of moisture to your lips. When you wear this lipstick, it feels like you are wearing a gloss. My favorite color is Delovely because you can wear it with just about anything. This neutral color gives you a little bit pink and a little bit of bronze to give you the perfect balance. It is the perfect everyday color. Also, check out Berry Blush for a soft pink that is very natural

3. Bamboo Lip Liner

Bamboo lip liner is my favorite because once again this color goes with almost all lipsticks and lip glosses. The lip liner also has a little bit of pink and a little bit of bronze. It is a perfect match for the delovely lipstick above.

4. Fresh Bloom All Over Color ( Peony)

This peony blush palette is absolutely beautiful! When you swirl these three colors together you get a look that softens the whole look to the face. The lighter color helps highlight your cheeks, while the darker colors help contour. Peony is the perfect blend of a peachy pink that looks so natural on all skin types. Also check out the color almond blossom. It is my second favorite that can also be used as a bronzer or eye shadow.

5. Happy in Bloom

Ladies, take advantage of this perfume while you can because it is a limited edition. This perfume has always been my favorite from Clinique. When they discontinued this perfume, it broke my heart. However, Happy in Bloom is back just for this spring. So, make sure you stock up while you can. This is a sweet floral that is soft and bright, and just makes you feel Happy! Almost everyone that I spray it for loves it.

Guest Post: Must Have Skincare Products from Clinique

January 14, 2010 by: admin

I have a guest post to share with you today. Today’s post is written by Cindy. Enjoy.

Hello, my name is Cindy, I am 26, and I am a Clinique Beauty Consultant. While working for Clinique I became very interested in not only what the products are going to do for me, but how the products work to achieve the optimum results. I am going to share with you my favorite Clinique products to help me achieve my ideal skin. Now before I begin I must tell you what makes Healthy skin.

1. Balance of Oil and Water
2. Continuous Cell Turnover
3. Intact Moisture Barrier
4. Strong Support System

1.Rinse- Off Foaming Cleanser

The Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser is going to remove long wearing make up. It will also help comfort and leave the skin feeling fresh and cleansed. Now, a lot of my customers think, ” why do I need a makeup remover and a soap.” Well, Clinique’s soap is not formulated to breakdown makeup. So, it cleanses the skin better once the make up is removed. Because if you have a cleanser that is meant to remove make up and cleanse the skin, it’s not going to do as great of job.

2. 7 Day Scrub

The 7 Day Scrub is going to scrub away roughness and flakiness to refine the skin’s texture. It is also going to lessen the appearance of fine lines. The 7 Day Scrub got its name because it’s gentle enough to be used 7 days a week. This is so important to the skin’s well being because it is going to help your skin’s natural continuous cell turnover which is number two on my list of what makes healthy skin.

3. 3-Step

Now, I know what you are thinking. 3-step…. Blah, Blah, Blah….Boring, Boring, Boring… What is so special about 3-Step.

Well I will tell you, I was the biggest skeptic about 3-step before I started working for the company. However, once I started to use the products and saw results, I became a believer. The first step of 3-step of course is the soap. Clinique’s soap is going to loosen the dead skin cells on your skin which is a very important part of the cleansing process. I was skeptical about a bar of soap because soap just has that reputation of leaving a film on your skin. However, a neat little fact about Clinique’s soap is that if you were to only use clinique’s soap in the shower, you would never get soap scum. I also prefer the bar of soap compared to the liquid soap because it lathers up so much better and cleanses so much deeper.

The second step of 3-step is the clarifying lotion. The clarifying lotion is going to sweep away the dead skin cells to reveal clearer skin. This gentle exfoliation is going to prepare the skin for moisture, so that it penetrates deeper into the skin. The clarifying lotion is my favorite part of 3-step because it makes my skin feel so clean and fresh.

The final step of 3-step is the dramatically different moisturizing lotion. I was the biggest skeptic about DDML, more than any other step. I thought, ” What’s the big deal? What does it really do? It doesn’t even have a SPF in it. How could this really benefit my skin?” Well, the DDML was never meant to be used by itself, unless you are 12 and have no other skin concerns. The DDML is going to go in and balance the oil and water in the skin. Which, if you remember from my list above, the balance of oil and water is the number one thing that makes healthy skin. Plus, when you use DDML it works like glue for everything else that you use on top of it. For example, if you use a repair product after DDML it will suck the repair product deeper into the skin, and the deeper it goes the better results you will see.

4. Turn Around Instant Facial and Concentrate

The Turn Around Instant Facial is a 5 minute mask that I normally just do in the shower while I’m shaving my legs. Because just like you I never have an extra 5 minutes in my day to do a mask. The mask is really great because it is going to give your skin the high performance of a microdermabration, but without the irritation. This mask is going to promote continuous cell turnover on multiple levels. Which is on my list from above. The average, young, and healthy skin takes about 28 days to come up to the surface of the skin. As you age your cell turnover begins to slow down. In some cases it takes up to 72 days for your new skin cells to come up to the surface. All of Clinique’s Turn Around products are going to help boost your skin’s continuous cell turn over. So, that your new more vibrant and youthful skin comes up to the surface. Now, this mask should be used about 2 to 3 times a week in place of the 7 day scrub.

The Turn Around Concentrate is going to have exfoliating ingredients that speeds fresh cells to the surface of the skin. It leaves the skin radiant, silky, and smooth. This is a serum that should go on the skin after the DDML, but before an additional moisturizer. This can be used everyday, and especially after using the Turn Around Instant Facial. These two products work hand and hand.

5. Superdefense SPF 25 and Super Rescue

The Superdefense is an awesome product that is going to protect the skin from all the environmental damages throughout the day. It has a high dosage of anti-oxidants. Everyone talks about how important it is that you eat lots of anti -oxidants, well you also need that in your skin. It is going to defend your skin of visible signs of aging. I think this product is for everyone. Even if you don’t have any signs of aging because it is gong to prevent you from seeing those first signs of aging. Or even if you already see signs of aging, it will still help fight against those signs. This product is also going to help neutralize UVA and UVB rays, which is going to keep an intact moisture barrier.

The moisture barrier is created by your skins cells. When your skins cells are created they are very plump like a grape. As they come up to the surface they thin out and squeeze out all the nutrients inside of them. These nutrients form a barrier to help protect your skin. Every so often you get a break in your moisture barrier. This allows environmental pollutions into your skin and destroys your healthy skins cells. By using this product you will help insure that your moisture barrier stays intact, which is number 3 on my list.

The Super Rescue is just like Superdefense, however it is for night time instead. When you sleep your body renews itself and repair all the past damage that you did to it throughout the day. Because of this it is going to have an extra dosage of vitamin C to help repair your skin. And just like its name, it is going to rescue your skin from all past damage and help your strong support system. Which is the final thing that makes healthy skin. A strong support system is what makes your skin firm and free from aging. You start to loose collagen in your skin at age 20’s, so keep it as healthy as possible by rescuing it every night to maintain your beautiful healthy skin.

Clinique Bronze Evolves Summer 2009 Collection

May 4, 2009 by: admin

I’m loving the new Clinique Summer 2009 collection titled Bronze Evolves. It looks like all the products in the collection would be wonderful for creating that sun-kissed glow. I’m heading out the mall later to pick up the shimmer strip and would like to try the self sun product as well. Has anyone tried the Clinique ‘Self Sun’ Body Daily Moisturizer yet? If so please leave a comment and let me know if it’s worth the money.

Allure Magazine Best of Beauty Awards 2008

September 29, 2008 by: admin

Allure magazine tested thousands of products to find the best in beauty for their October 2008 issue. Did your favorite products make the list?

Best Lip Gloss:

Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15

Best Mascara:

Lancome High Definicils High Definition Mascara for day and Max Factor Volume Couture High Volume & Definition Mascara for night.

My thoughts:

Really? I didn’t care much for either of those mascaras myself. I guess that just goes to show you that some products work great for one person and not so great for another.

Best Primer:

Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer.

Best Medium Coverage Foundation:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10.

Best Anti Aging Treatment:

For day Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 and for night RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.

Best Shampoo and Conditioner:

For normal hair the choice was Fekkai Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner.

For a complete list of winners check out the October issue of Allure magazine on newstands now. What do you think of the results? Did any of your favorites win?
