I do exactly the same. I usually wash my hair every 4-7 days or sometimes longer and rinse in between and apply a spray leave in conditioner. Then I wrap it at night. Wrapping it helps seal in the moisture and keep hair straight so I don't have to use straighteners or hair products on a regular basis.
My hair is really glossy and looks healthier.

Jessica's hair seems to prove that only washing it less is doing great for her. I wash my hair everyday and I know I shouldn't due to ingredients in shampoos can be harmful and strip hair of natural oils that moisturize, and protect hair from drying out and damage. Maybe I need to do an experiement of washing my hair once a week or even a month. Decades ago when ppl didn't have running water they HAD to go once week or month in bathing and hair washing.

It seems like no washing is all the trend now.. but.. most of my life I have only washed by hair ONCE a week. I was told by EVERYONE that was the way to go. I have thick wavy hair that people would compliment because it is - well thick and wavy and long. Although I hated all the frizz and I would get fly aways, people insisted that washing it would strip away all the oil and make it worse. Recently due to working out really hard, I HAD to wash everyday, because it just smelled like sweat! Guess what? My hair looks 100 times better. My advise to a lot of people with frizz and fly aways - who have tried the NOT washing treatment- try WASHING your hair everyday. My hair now has NO frizz, NO flyaways, it is silky and shiny and healthier! Sometimes I get busy and can't wash and the frizz returns. Will this work for you? Don't know. ... but if you hate the frizz especially in the summer, why not give it a try? I use a relative cheap shampoo and conditioner. It actually SAVES me time to wash everyday. Why? When I was weekly shampooing I had to shampoo a couple of times to get rid of the itchy/ greasy feeling. Then I had to wait longer to condition deeper (I would use expensive stuff). At the end of the week my hair (before the shampoo) felt really dry - especially the ends and the scalp woudl be greasy. (Oh and I did the whole combing thing with a boars hair brush, etc. etc.) Now I just shampoo once lightly and condition once lightly and just go. The oils now get all the way to the ends and feel great. And my scalp doesn't feel oily or itchy. Plus I get no back acne. Everyone's hair is different. For me washing every days is defintely the say to go.

No extensions required on my head. I have really thick, long hair that is naturally curly.
If I washed it every day, it would be as coarse as straw! Not to mention that it would take forever to dry and style. Nope. Since I started using a flat iron to straighten my hair, I can go up to a month or more between shampoos and no one would know the difference if I didn't tell them.

I get compliments about my hair all the time. It NEVER looks or feels greasy or oily. My hair is in the best condition and the only product I use in it is the silicone serum spray when I first straighten it and to freshen it up between shampoos. Brushing keeps it shiny and clean and any stylist will tell you that hair that hasn't been washed for more than a few days is easier to style.

It might not work for everyone, but no one should be grossed out about not washing their hair every single day. It just isn't necessary.

We're talking about Jessica Simpson here. She's not black, so I don't know how being african-american has any relevance. However everyone's skin and hair texture is different. So she only washes her hair a couple times a month, but she still puts water on it and conditions it, so I don't see how that is gross. It's not like she's just dirty or anything. That's just the way her hair is and what works best for her. That's not to say that will work for everyone tho.

I just wanted to add that lice actually prefers clean, not dirty hair. That could be one of your secrets to not getting lice.

Also, drying your hair with a hair dryer kills them. I assume that is one reason why kids get them more than adults.

when I was a child and teen I washed my hair once a week, my hair was so thick in fact I used to complain it was too thick.
I can't remember when or why I started washing it everyday, all I do know is my head starts to itch and I get psoriasis if I don't wash daily, I'm sure this washing is exasperating the problem, my hair is now so thin you can see my scalp :o(

I have thick, long, coarse caucasian hair that I highlight and I only wash once a week or sometimes even less. I am complimented on my hair all the time. I do not use any styling products which may help. It takes so long to style that I go as long as possible and let my scalp dictate the washings. I take a bath or pin it up in the shower. I use Lavanilla natural perfume on my neck and many people say my hair smells delicious. When I was young my mom only washed my hair on Sunday (whether it needed it or not :)

Aisha, thats because our hair doesn't get oily, our hair is naturally dry, thats why so many Black women put oil, grease or hair lotion in their hair. But a non-black person washing their hair only a couple of times a month is like the equivalent of a black woman washng her hair a couple of times a year, which is pretty gross.
