Bath and Body Works Black Amethyst

September 30, 2008 by: admin

Are you looking for a new scent for Fall? If so, you may want to stop into Bath and Body Works and check out their newest scent, Black Amethyst.

Here’s how they describe it:

  • Our exclusive fragrance is a hypnotic scent inspired by chic, sensual and confident women
  • Fragrance top notes: Bergamot Italian Oprur, Juicy Mandarin, Sparkling Tangerine, Zesty Orange, Waterfruits, Crisp Melon
  • Fragrance mid notes: Lily of the Valley, Magnolia Blossom, Sheer Gardenia, Tuberose, Freesia, Peony Petals, Camellia
  • Fragrance base notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Vanilla, Musk

I stopped by the mall on Sunday to check it out and I must say I’m very surprised that I enjoyed this scent as much as I did. I’m usually much more of a “girly” scent type of girl and Black Amethyst smells very unisex, but for some reason I still love it. I wasn’t willing to fork over the money for the perfume since I never seem to finish those , but I did pick up a Body Splash and Wildflower Plugin. Have you tried this product ? What were your thoughts?

The Body Splash Retails for $11.00 and the Wildflower Plugins Retail for $12.50 at Bath and Body Works

Allure Magazine Best of Beauty Awards 2008

September 29, 2008 by: admin

Allure magazine tested thousands of products to find the best in beauty for their October 2008 issue. Did your favorite products make the list?

Best Lip Gloss:

Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15

Best Mascara:

Lancome High Definicils High Definition Mascara for day and Max Factor Volume Couture High Volume & Definition Mascara for night.

My thoughts:

Really? I didn’t care much for either of those mascaras myself. I guess that just goes to show you that some products work great for one person and not so great for another.

Best Primer:

Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer.

Best Medium Coverage Foundation:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10.

Best Anti Aging Treatment:

For day Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 and for night RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.

Best Shampoo and Conditioner:

For normal hair the choice was Fekkai Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner.

For a complete list of winners check out the October issue of Allure magazine on newstands now. What do you think of the results? Did any of your favorites win?

Joico K-PAK Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor Review

September 26, 2008 by: admin

What they say:

K-PAK Reconstructor contains the highest amount of Quadramine Complex than any other product in the Joico family. Hair is left shiny, strong and in a healthy, manageable state. K-PAK Reconstructor results in an immediately noticeable difference in strength, texture and appearance.

What we say:

This product is amazing! I have had my hair dyed every color under the sun in the last 10-15 years and it showed. My color of choice has been light blonde for years now, but I recently decided to go to the salon and get it dyed back to it’s natural state (a dark blonde). While I was there I asked the stylist about different haircare products to improve the condition of my hair and she mentioned K-Pak Penetrating Reconstuctor. I’ve been using it for about two months now and the condition of my hair has improved tremendously.

One thing to note about this product though is it’s not a conditioner it’s a reconstructor. This product is used to fill in the holes of your hair shaft, using protein. By doing this and strengthening the shaft, it reduces breakage therefore leaving you with healthier hair. Use once a week and you’ll see a difference in no time at all. Really, I promise it’s that good!

Urban Decay Sustainable Shadow Box

September 18, 2008 by: admin

Move over MAC I have a new love and his name is Urban Decay. I swear I didn’t think I could ever love a cosmetics line more than I do MAC, but Urban Decay is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

I have to have this new Sustainable Shadow Box it’s gorgeous. Not only is it loaded with TEN gorgeous shadows, it’s also eco-friendly, and the brush is cruelty free! There’s nothing that makes me swoon more than cruelty free, eco-friendly makeup….sigh…. Another awesome thing about this kit is it contains a travel size bottle of Eyeshadow Primer Potion. LOVE IT!

Now the only bad news is that I’m sorta trying to stick to a makeup budget and I’ve already went over that this month, boo hoo…. What’s a girl to do? (Go ahead tell me it’s OK to break the budget once in awhile.)

Retails for: $36.00 at UrbanDecay.com.

Generic Value Products Silk Treatment Review

by: admin

What they say:

Compare to BioSilk Silk Therapy from Farouk Systems and save! Gives hair a smooth and silky feel while providing a brilliant high gloss shine.

GVP Silk Treatment is a concentrated silk treatment Fortified with botanicals. Ideal lightweight replenishing treatment that protects and maintains hair and scalp in optimum condition. Concentrated silk, fortified with botanicals gives hair a smooth and silky feel while providing a brilliant high gloss shine. Will not build up or weigh hair down.

What we say:

Generic Value Products is a brand sold at Sally Beauty Supply. The company was formed because a group of experienced chemists and marketing people knew they could produce at Popular Prices a product as good as higher priced quality Name Brands.

The back of the bottle contains a section that compares the ingredients of the GVP silk treatment to Biosilk and shows you the product is identical as far as the ingredients go. So is it identical in any other way? I haven’t used Biosilk in a while, but from what I remember this product is pretty darn close!

I’m so excited about this product! It works great and it’s a fraction of the cost. A 5.64 oz bottle of Biosilk is $22.99 or a 6 oz bottle of GVP silk treatment is only $7.99. What a steal huh? Head to your local Sally Beauty Supply today and try it for yourself.

Have you tried this product? What were your thoughts?
